Bullying in the Workplace: Jonathan Martin’s Million Dollar Lawsuit

Miami Dolphins guard Jonathan Martin could stand to win millions in damages against Richie Incognito, the Dolphins franchise and possibly even the National Football league, for his claims of illegal harassment in the workplace.

Martin LawsuitMiami Dolphins guard Jonathan Martin could stand to win millions in damages against Richie Incognito, the Dolphins franchise and possibly even the National Football league, for his claims of illegal harassment in the workplace.  (As widely reported, Incognito’s use of the “N” word, along with threats to kill Martin and his family, would seem to be pretty strong evidence of a workplace harassment.)   Florida law is very favorable for victims of workplace harassment.   It provides for triple damages plus legal fees.    If he was to claim his career was ended by the treatment he received, Martin, who by some estimates has a lifetime earning expectancy of $6 million, he could sue (and possibly win) as much as $18 million.  Quite simply, Jonathan Martin might make many times more money by pursuing his legal remedies over chasing a Super Bowl Ring.
